Barry's Bootcamp

Introduction

In Aug I started my journey with Team Rowan & as a team we take part in many other fitness activities as a group beside the gym. In Nov we had a team day out by attending a class at Barry's Bootcamp.

I have to say I was completely oblivious as to the amount of classes available in London. I had never heard of Barry's let alone been to a class. Barry's has been labelled the world's toughest workout! There are multiple locations dotted around the world. London, USA & Norway. We all attended a Sunday afternoon workout, which was a full body workout.

How does it work?

The class is one hour & your time is split between a Woodway treadmill & floor work.

If you're a newbie then you'll be given an induction before the class. You'll be shown how to use the treadmill & basic code of conduct for safety purposes.

When you book online you can choose whether you want to start on the treadmill or floor. You can choose your location/slash number. If you choose T12 you will start on treadmill no 12 of which when you swap over you will move to F12.

The split is approx. 10-15 min on each & two rounds of each followed by a cool down. At first you think you'll just be made to run but do not be fooled! You are given three speeds of which you run, sprint & jog along with inclines. The aim is to push yourself as much as you can especially on those sprints! Floor work can range anything from squats, press up, abs & lunges etc.

There will be a qualified instructor running the class. All the instructors come from a highly driven fitness background with a wealth of knowledge & experience. In fact, one of the instructors there is Ellie Goulding, personal trainer. Can't complain there!

Preparation

Before we went we all made sure we had eaten our breakfast 1.5 hours before class after that time we ate nothing. The reason for this is that you do not want to be throwing up due to the intensity. I had scrambled eggs & a banana, I would also recommend having some gluten free oats.

The studios all have showers with shower gel, shampoo, conditioner & body cream. They also have a small basket of essentials such as deodorant, dry shampoo etc to use. They provide you with lockers & a towel to shower; as well as this they have hairdryers & ghd hair straighteners. They really have thought of everything so you literally just need to bring a change of clothes.

The Coco Chick Review

My first time round was really hard & it's seriously an intense workout. You will come out of there shattered & sweaty! I can't complain it was an amazing feeling & to be honest that hour flys by. There's no clock anywhere so you can't clock watch & neither do you have the time to as you'll be too busy trying to keep up!

The classes during the week are different body parts whereas Friday to Sunday is full body.

Post all your hard work you'll be glad to know there is a fuel bar with loads of yummy shakes you can choose from. You can request your shake at reception & they'll have it ready for you post your workout. I highly recommend the Banana Nut shake :)

Classes are £20 which many will say are not cheap but it's definitely worth it! The classes are a great way to supplement your training. If you work in the city & need a quick intense hours workout then this is the place to go. You can only book classes one week in advance.

The two locations in London are Central, which is Euston & City, which is near Old Street. Having these open round the world I think are great as it somewhere you can go whilst on holiday to keep your training & weight in check. There's nothing worse than gaining more than needed whilst on holiday not to mention the extra work you then have to put in when back!

I've only been twice & have decided to sign up to hell week at the end of this month! I'm not sure whether I'm stupid or brave! I'll let you know how I get on & whether I survive the whole week!
