Last year Nov marked my 5-year wedding anniversary, my husband not one for celebrations, however, I insisted on trying somewhere new.

Mr Foggs Residence & Park Chinois had been on my list for a while; both a perfect place to celebrate. I booked a table at Mr Foggs for pre-dinner drinks followed by dinner at Park Chinois.

Mr Foggs

When you arrive at Mr Foggs its lives up to name of Mr Foggs Residence. The building & ambience really does have a warm homely feel as well keeping true to its roots. We were lucky enough to have a table by the fireplace. The drinks menu offered an endless choice of spirits, you can't fault the choice available. I'm someone who loves my gin & I always make a point of trying a new gin overtime I'm out. I decided to opt for The Botanist gin which is made up of 22 local botanicals which are made up of berries, barks, seeds & peels.

Park Chinois

Park Chinois is a high end Chinese restaurant. The restaurant has a bar upstairs & the main dining area is downstairs which is where we were seated. When you enter the main restaurant, it oozes opulence & a boudoir feel. I loved the setting & ambience, it was cosy, intimate yet lively. On Saturday nights, they have a DJ playing music which is well suited to the setting.

I started off with a cocktail called Les Trois Garcons which is a mix of The Botanist gin, elderflower, redcurrant jelly, yuzu, tonic and soda water. Below is what the lovely cocktail looked like & it was lush! The second cocktail was a Vodka Collins, which was made up of vodka, elderflower, yuzu, ginger, lemon, peach bitters & soda water. The vodka Collins wasn’t too bad but I did find it slightly strong, the Les Trois Garcons was a winner!

Cocktails @ Park Chinois

For starters, we ordered the vegetable spring rolls, salt & pepper squid with papaya salad & veg dumplings. All three dishes were tasty not to mention the combination of squid & papaya was on point.

For mains, we ordered grilled black cod with sake & soya, steamed sea bass with soya, ginger & spring onions with egg fried rice. The dishes here are so clean yet so tasty & full of flavour. My preferred dish was the black cod as it has a slightly sticky sweet taste to it,

which I enjoy with my fish. I don’t generally like cod as I find it hard to season correctly, however whenever I’ve had black cod at restaurants the flavours are amazing. Unfortunately, we were so stuffed there was no space for dessert!

The Coco Chick Review

I would highly recommend both places for any special occasion.

In terms of cost you're looking at £10-£15 for a spirit & mixer or cocktail, again this depends on the grade of spirit you choose.

Park Chinois is expensive however the quality of the food is excellent & the portion sizes are generous. We found that one main could be shared between 2-3 people. You're looking at approx £250-£280 for 2 people with alcohol, if you don't drink then your bill will be a lot more favourable. I would love to go back but in a group which allows you to sample a wider variety of dishes & of course to try a dessert next time round :)

xoxo
