Il Baretto

Saturday night my husband decided he wanted to take me for dinner in town. Not like him but it’s nice once in a while when things are spontaneous!
Post my workout I rushed home to get ready & in the car we got. Tonight was my choice I tried calling Peyote & Roka in Mayfair for a booking but no luck. My husband’s friend suggested II Baretto which is an Italian off Baker Street. We managed to obtain a booking here easily.
As we entered the restaurant it was busy with a dim lit ambience but at the same time a nice lively buzz to it. We were seated downstairs which was cosy. I have to say this place is great for a cosy meal as well as a group dinner.
Food
We started off with drinks of which I had a mocktail called Ginger Mule which consisted of ginger ale, mint & fresh lime.
For starters, we decided to share the Baked aubergine with mozzarella, Parmesan, tomato & basil & Bruschetta.
The baked aubergine just melted in your melt as you can see below the aubergine was baked in a skillet with the tomato sauce and then the mozzarella melted on top. Such a minimal dish yet so full of flavour.
The bruschetta was grilled ciabatta bread topped with tomatoes & goats cheese. If you’re a bread & goats cheese lover this combination works so well. I loved how the bread was really nice & crispy. I also drizzled some balsamic vinegar on the side so I could dip the bottom of the bread in it. All I can say is yum!
For mains, I decided to order the salmon which came with rocket however I also ordered the tender stem broccoli which was cooked in olive oil, garlic & chilli.
I asked for my salmon medium to well done. When it arrived the salmon was nicely grilled & crispy on the top & no seasoning it was such a clean meal. When I broke into the salmon it was soft like cotton wool, cooked to perfection. Even the salmon was not cooked with seasoning it just tasted divine! I literally only squeezed fresh lemon on top with some salt & pepper.
The tender stem broccoli really does speak for itself olive oil, chilli & garlic are three ingredients you can’t go wrong with. It’s the perfect side compliment with any meat dish.

The Coco Chick Review
I highly enjoyed II Barreto; the dishes are probably a lot simpler to the previous restaurants I’ve reviewed but sometimes less is more. The salmon for me was the best I’ve had yet at a restaurant.
The ambience, service & food was all on point. I really can’t fault my experience & I’d highly recommended it to anyone who’s looking to try a new Italian restaurant. I would definitely go back to try their pasta & pizza dishes.
