What is Laser Hair Removal
Laser hair removal is the process of removing unwanted hair by using a laser light, which destroys the hair follicle. The main misconception is that laser permanently removes hair, however it’s a permanent reduction in hair growth.
If you’re planning to invest in laser then find someone who is qualified as well highly recommended. It’s crucial to choose a salon with highly trained therapists who know what they are doing, as the last thing you want is being burnt. A few of my friends have gone thru this & it’s not pleasant!
If you decide to go ahead with laser hair removal then the therapist will advise which type of laser will be best suited to you. The therapist will also carry out a patch test to see there are no reactions to your skin. It’s advised you don’t carry out your first full session at least 24-48 hours after your patch test.
Different Types of Laser
The most common types of lasers available are:
Ruby Laser
Alexandrite Laser Hair Removal
Diode Laser Hair Removal
Nd:YAG Laser Hair Removal
IPL – Intense Pulse Light Hair Removal

Ultimately the therapist should be able to judge which will be the best for you.
Recently there has been the development of Soprano laser which has an ice like cooling system, which allows the skin to stay cool therefore making it less painful. It’s meant to be the gold standard in laser hair removal. Again not all salons offer it so it’s best to speak to your therapist to see if they offer it & whether it would be suitable for you.
Costs
Laser hair removal doesn’t come cheap! Depending on which areas you want treated; you’re looking at a large sum of money. For example full legs generally on average cost £200 a session & you will need at least 6 to 8 session to see results. As well as looking for a reputable salon, check to see who offer packages or have a promotion as they tend to work out more cost effective.
The Coco Chick Review
Is spending that amount of money worth it? Personally for me it was the best investment I ever made & I’m glad I made it years ago. There are small areas on my face where I need the occasional touch up, however I found other areas worked really well for me.
My legs & bikini line were the areas where I saw the best results. I was treated with IPL as it was best suited to my skin & hair type. I had 8 sessions & the key was to stick to those session’s regularly. I was advised to go back every 6-8weeks, which I did. The end results were no more hair growth on my bikini line. I saw a 80% permanent reduction on my legs & the end results were smooth crystal clear legs, no scars, bumps or ingrowths. Any hairs that did grow back were a lot finer & lighter. With laser you’re not allowed to wax, so being able to shave where there was growth was so much more manageable. I also found any scars or dark patches that had formed due to constant waxing soon disappeared.
Growing up in my teens was painful, as I had to wait for hair growth as well as having to sit thru the pain of waxing. I rather sit thru laser knowing it will last longer.
If you are looking to invest in laser I suggest saving a lump sum & go for the areas that are most exposed. I chose my legs as it was less hassle over summer, when I wanted to go swimming, on holiday & the ability to slip a dress on last minute without having to worry are my legs done!
Please note you cannot undergo laser whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are planning to become pregnant I would wait as pregnancy hormones tend to cause an increase in hair growth.
